The Town Hall strengthens beach services with new machinery and surveillance
The rescue service will be operational until September 15th on Estepona’s most crowded beaches
Estepona enhances its beaches for the summer season with new cleaning, surveillance, and accessibility measures. The Councilor for Beaches, Susana Aragón, presented today the machinery and devices that will ensure the well-being of residents and tourists.
Estepona’s Town Hall has increased the resources allocated to cleaning, maintenance, and safety on its beaches for the summer season. The Councilor for Beaches, Susana Aragón, announced today the addition of new machinery and the activation of a surveillance service that will remain active until September 15th.
Among the new equipment are three tractors, two buggies, a crane truck, and various specialized tools such as a medium screening beach cleaner, brush cutters, blowers, and pressure washers, all of which will optimize cleaning and maintenance of Estepona’s 22 kilometers of coastline. According to Aragón, this reinforcement will ensure the beaches remain in optimal condition throughout the summer, a task that is carried out year-round but intensifies during the high season.
Surveillance and safety
This year, the rescue and surveillance service has also been enhanced. With a total of 45 lifeguards, an ambulance with a technician and nurse, and a rescue boat, the service will be deployed on the municipality’s most visited beaches: La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo, and Arroyo Vaquero.
The innovations include the installation of 17 new surveillance towers along the coastline. These towers, more modern and resistant, replace the traditional lifeguard chairs. They are designed to withstand ultraviolet radiation, humidity, and impacts, and feature a system of 5mm thick acrylic portals to ensure the safety of the lifeguards. Additionally, the towers are equipped with a slatted platform that allows for a full view of the bathing area from various positions.
The surveillance service will operate Monday through Sunday, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, though the schedule may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and daylight hours. Furthermore, the service includes a Risk Assessment Plan for each beach, in collaboration with the relevant public safety services.
Improvements in accessibility
Regarding accessibility, the Town Hall has installed new adapted showers for people with reduced mobility on the beaches of El Cristo and La Rada. These showers, which allow direct access with a wheelchair or amphibious chair, are designed to offer greater comfort and safety to users.
The assisted bathing service for people with reduced mobility will continue to be free of charge until September 15th, with the same hours as the surveillance service.
Estepona remains committed to providing a safe, accessible, and clean environment for all its residents and tourists during the summer season. The new measures implemented ensure that the town’s beaches continue to be one of the main attractions on the Costa del Sol.
