The PSOE of Estepona has once again called for the resignation of Mayor José María García Urbano following the revelation that he will face trial for embezzling public funds. The accusation stems from the hiring of a close friend of the mayor, who, according to judicial testimonies, never worked at her position, despite receiving salary payments from the Town Hall.
Emma Molina, PSOE spokesperson, confirmed that the party is in talks with VOX to arrange an extraordinary session where García Urbano and his deputy, Blas Ruzafa, can explain to the public the hiring of this individual. “It is essential that they provide explanations to the citizens of Estepona,” stated Molina.
In addition, Joséle Aguilar, the provincial secretary of PSOE, criticized the silence of Andalusian President Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla and called for his intervention in the matter, demanding García Urbano's resignation.
The call for the mayor's resignation, with a trial scheduled for June 4, continues to stir division in local politics, with PSOE and VOX pushing for clear answers and for the PP to take a stance on the scandal.
