Hospiten Estepona Inaugurates Expansion with New Services and a €16 Million Investment
The hospital adds new Emergency, Hospitalization, and Outpatient Consultation areas to improve care for residents of Estepona and surrounding areas
Hospiten Estepona inaugurated its expansion on Wednesday, with a €16 million investment aimed at meeting the growing demand for healthcare in the town and neighboring municipalities. The new infrastructure includes the modernization of key areas such as Emergency Services, Hospitalization, and Outpatient Consultations, allowing for more specialized care and greater capacity.
Increased Healthcare Capacity and More Specialized Care
The inaugural event, held yesterday, was attended by Estepona’s mayor, José María García Urbano, who emphasized the significance of this expansion for the well-being of the city's residents. The construction work has resulted in a larger, more modern hospital, better equipped to handle the rising healthcare needs along the Costa del Sol.
Among the main improvements is the expansion of the Hospitalization area, which now includes 53 additional rooms, along with 6 beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In total, the Hospitalization and ICU areas now provide 59 beds, allowing the hospital to offer more complex care, including the treatment of critically ill patients.
Pediatric Emergency Services and Separate Circuits
Another major advancement from the expansion is the introduction of a specialized Pediatric Emergency Service. Now, children will have access to a dedicated medical team, with a separate circuit created for adults and children. This aims to reduce waiting times and ensure faster, more personalized care.
The renovation of the Emergency area has also significantly increased the service’s capacity, expanding from 7 to 13 treatment boxes. This includes units for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, isolation, an aerosol room, and separate waiting areas for adults and children. Additionally, emergency care capacity has been boosted to provide a faster response to critical situations.
Expansion of Outpatient Consultations and New Medical Services
The expansion has also focused on Outpatient Consultations, with 12 new consultation rooms, bringing the total to 30 across the hospital. This increase will allow Hospiten Estepona to offer more medical specialties, including Gynecology, Traumatology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Oncology, Interventional Radiology, and Pulmonology, among others. These improvements respond to the growing demand for quality medical services from the local population.
Additionally, the hospital has added new medical units such as Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, and the Pain Management Unit. These advancements strengthen the hospital’s medical services, improving coverage in critical healthcare areas.
Job Creation and Increased Convenience for Users
The project has also had a positive impact on local employment, as it has led to a 30% increase in the hospital’s staff. According to Juan José Hernández Rubio, executive president of Hospiten, this increase in staff reflects the hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement in healthcare delivery, not only for Estepona residents but also for international patients visiting the center.
Regarding accessibility, the expansion also includes a significant improvement in parking facilities, with 300 new outdoor parking spaces. This will ease access to the hospital, alleviating parking shortages and providing greater convenience for hospital users.
A Promising Future for Healthcare Services
The completion of this expansion marks a significant milestone for Hospiten Estepona, reinforcing its commitment to the health of the community. The new facilities will enable the hospital’s professionals to provide faster, more specialized, and higher-quality care, establishing Hospiten Estepona as one of the leading hospitals on the Costa del Sol.
With this investment, the hospital has not only improved its infrastructure but also increased its capacity to offer high-complexity services and meet the growing needs of patients from Estepona and nearby municipalities. Without a doubt, this project represents an important step forward in the continuous improvement of healthcare in the region.
