Estepona will Install Solar Panels at Congress Palace
Project completes municipal Energy Efficiency Plan with €140,955 investment
Estepona Town Hall has opened the public tender to install photovoltaic panels at the Exhibition and Congress Palace, the final phase of a plan that has already modernized the energy systems of the Archaeological Museum, the Bullring, and Muñoz Pérez Stadium, among other municipal facilities.
The Estepona Council continues advancing its energy sustainability strategy with the tender for solar installation works at one of its landmark buildings. The intervention is part of the extraordinary Tourism Sustainability in Destinations program 2021-2023, funded by Next Generation EU funds.
Investment and execution timeline
The base tender budget amounts to €140,955 (VAT included), while the execution period has been set at six weeks. The contract will be awarded using the most economically advantageous offer criterion among submitted proposals.
The photovoltaic installation will include latest-generation solar panels, current inverters, protection and control systems, and measuring equipment that will guarantee the building’s energy self-consumption.
Already renovated municipal buildings
In recent years, the Town Hall has implemented energy-saving measures in various municipal facilities:
Padre Manuel Cultural Center
El Carmen Sports Pavilion
Francisco Muñoz Pérez Football Stadium
Bullring
Archaeological Museum
Casa de las Tejerinas
These actions have significantly reduced both energy consumption and CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, while generating notable savings in the municipal electricity bill.

Sustainability objectives
The municipal Energy Efficiency Plan aims to reduce the initial energy consumption of intervened buildings by 15% to 20%, while simultaneously improving their energy rating. The strategy also seeks to optimize municipal heritage and enhance the city’s tourism offering under sustainability criteria.
The energy produced through the Congress Palace solar installation will come entirely from renewable sources, contributing to the municipality’s decarbonization and compliance with European environmental objectives.
Public lighting transformation
Simultaneously, the Council continues implementing LED technology along the coastal corridor, rural roads, and urban center streets. This public lighting renovation forms an integral part of the Energy Efficiency Plan that positions Estepona as a sustainability leader on the Costa del Sol.
The Congress Palace intervention represents the culmination of a strategic project that reinforces Estepona’s commitment to energy transition and sustainable tourism development, funded by the European Recovery Plan.
