Estepona begins the largest renovation of the Orchidarium Botanical Park in 10 years
The renovation will include new plantings, paving, lighting, and urban furniture, aiming to improve accessibility and the visitor experience.
The Estepona City Council will carry out the largest renovation of the Orchidarium Botanical Park since its opening in 2015, aiming to update and improve one of the municipality's main tourist attractions. The intervention will range from the renewal of plant species to improvements in infrastructure, paving, and urban furniture.
The Estepona City Council has announced the largest renovation of the Orchidarium Botanical Park since its opening ten years ago. The project, which will begin shortly, aims to enhance both the image and services of this emblematic public space, which attracts thousands of tourists and residents every year.
The renovation will focus on several key areas, starting with the renewal of tree and plant species. Specifically, a 2,300-square-meter area in the southern part of the park will be repaired, and the trees and plants will be replaced. Additionally, informative labels will be installed next to each specimen, providing visitors with scientific and recreational information about the park's extensive botanical collection.
The project will maintain the park’s current design but improve its overall condition. The entire paving will be replaced, ensuring that the new material is ecological, permeable, and stable, to improve pedestrian accessibility. Urban furniture will also be replaced to fit the park's new aesthetic and functional approach.
Blas Ruzafa, Deputy Mayor for External Control, commented that this is a “complete remodeling,” which will include significant interventions to optimize this important public space. The renovation will also address the irrigation system, and a waterproofing paint will be applied to the external walls of the Orchidarium building. Furthermore, the safety glass panels on the stairs leading to the building will be replaced.
Another key aspect of the renovation will be the improvement of lighting. All light fixtures will be replaced with high-efficiency LED models, ensuring better light distribution, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing noise pollution. Scenic lighting will also be installed to highlight the park's most iconic plant species.
The renovation of the Orchidarium Botanical Park will significantly improve the park's accessibility and security, further enhancing its tourist appeal and cultural value. With investments in infrastructure and sustainability, the project will solidify the Orchidarium as a key tourist destination on the Costa del Sol.
With this renovation, Estepona reaffirms its commitment to improving its public spaces for both residents and tourists. The project is expected to be completed in the coming months, ensuring that the Orchidarium Botanical Park remains an emblematic place for the local community and a landmark on the Costa del Sol.
