Estepona Joins the Great Food Drive This Weekend
From November 7 to 8, local supermarkets collect food and donations for the Food Bank
The Great Food Drive 2025, the largest charitable event of the year against food poverty, arrives in Estepona this weekend with the goal of collecting food and monetary donations at various city supermarkets to help thousands of people in vulnerable situations.
From Friday, November 7 to Saturday, November 8, Estepona residents can collaborate with the Food Bank in an initiative that seeks to reach the equivalent of 10 million kilos of food nationwide. The campaign, organized by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) and its 54 associated banks, responds to an increasingly pressing social reality in Spain.
The Context of Food Emergency
According to the latest Report on the State of Poverty, nearly 12.5 million people in Spain (25.8% of the population) are at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2024. Of these, 9.6 million live on less than €965 per month, while average spending per person exceeds €1,100, according to INE data.
The rising cost of living, the housing crisis, and the shrinking middle class have turned access to adequate nutrition into a challenge for thousands of families. Many of these people never imagined finding themselves in this situation and experience it in silence, in an invisible reality that Food Banks know closely and try to alleviate every day.
How to Help in Estepona
In Estepona, the collection will take place on November 7 and 8 at the following establishments:
All Mercadona stores (Avenida de Andalucía, Avenida Puerta del Mar, Cancelada and Costa Natura)
Lidl on Avenida Puerta del Mar and in Cancelada
Cash Fresh on Avenida de España
Día on Calle Carlos Cano
Carrefour Hiper on Avenida Litoral
Two Ways to Help: Food or Money
Citizens can collaborate in two ways: by donating non-perishable food items or making monetary contributions directly at checkout. This second option presents multiple advantages, as it allows the Food Bank to purchase products when they are actually needed, guaranteeing sustainable food assistance adapted to the real needs of the people served, while preventing food waste.
Additionally, monetary donations reduce the environmental impact associated with product transportation and offer tax advantages. Donors can claim their contribution as a deduction by submitting their receipt through the website www.granrecogida.org.
Online Donation Options
For those who prefer to collaborate online, the Estepona Food Bank offers several alternatives:
Bizum to number 00887
Online donation at https://bancordoba.org/haz-una-donacion/
Through www.granrecogida.org until the end of December
Nationwide, Bizum to 00090 is also available to support the Great Food Drive.

A Call for Solidarity
Pedro Miguel Llorca, president of FESBAL, has sent a clear message to citizens: “On behalf of all Food Banks, I want to encourage you to give it your all in the Great Food Drive. Because, together, we are capable of giving much more than food: we can give dignity and a future.”
The Great Food Drive 2025 will mobilize more than 11,000 establishments throughout Spain this weekend, in a demonstration of collective solidarity to address a reality that affects millions of people and is much closer than we imagine.
