Estepona Town Hall Awards Contract for the Expansion of the Coastal Corridor in the Matas Verdes Area
The project, which will connect Playa Baños-Matas Verdes with Avenida de la Playa and Marriott’s Playa Andaluza, will be completed in three months with a 26% reduction in the initial price.
Estepona Town Hall has awarded the contract for the expansion of the coastal corridor in the eastern part of the municipality, specifically between Playa Baños and Matas Verdes. The selected company presented a proposal with a 26% reduction in the initial price and shortened the execution time to three months, two months less than initially planned.
Estepona continues to make progress on its project to transform its coastline into a large pedestrian corridor that runs along the entire coast. On this occasion, the Town Hall has awarded the contract for the new section of the coastal corridor, which will extend through the Matas Verdes area in the eastern part of the municipality.
The contract was awarded to the company that submitted the most advantageous bid in a public tender, which included a 26% price reduction and a two-month reduction in the execution time. The total project cost, initially budgeted at 782,106 euros, will now be carried out for 578,758.61 euros and is expected to be completed within three months.
Details of the New Section
The new section will include a 575-meter-long wooden boardwalk, connecting Avenida de la Playa to the west with Marriott’s Playa Andaluza. This section will also link up with other key points along the coastline, such as the Punta de Baños-Casasola area and Saladillo Beach.
The intervention not only aims to expand pedestrian access to the coast but also improve connectivity between the city and its coastline, allowing both locals and tourists to enjoy a walk in close contact with nature.
Materials and Permits
As with previous sections, this new phase of the coastal corridor will be built using environmentally friendly materials. Both the boardwalk and supporting structures will be made of wood, ensuring better integration with the natural surroundings. Additionally, safety railings and lighting will be installed to ensure the safety of users.
The project has all the necessary permits, including authorization from the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of the Andalusian Regional Government, which has approved the project, ensuring compliance with environmental protection regulations.
Progress of the Overall Coastal Corridor Project
This new section is part of the Town Hall’s ambitious plan to create a vast coastal corridor running along the entire Estepona coastline. Currently, the project is 92% completed. Over the past few years, several sections have been inaugurated, such as the recently opened area in Benamara. Furthermore, new projects are already being planned to extend the corridor in areas such as Bahía Dorada and Atalaya.
With this expansion, the municipality continues to make strides in its goal of improving access and integration of the coastline with the rest of the municipality, providing both residents and visitors with a safe and sustainable pathway along the entire coast.
Estepona Town Hall remains committed to the creation of a coastal corridor that will enhance the quality of life for its residents and attract tourists. With the newly awarded section in the Matas Verdes area, the project continues to progress at a good pace, and it is expected that in the coming months, the path will be fully connected, significantly improving access to the municipality’s natural spaces.
