Why is LGTBIQ+ Pride Day celebrated on June 28?
LGTBIQ+ Pride Day is celebrated on June 28 to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred in New York in 1969. This date marked a turning point in the civil rights struggle for the LGTBIQ+ community. The uprising began in the early hours of June 28, when the LGTBIQ+ community revolted against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a well-known gathering place for the gay community. This event was pivotal in highlighting the injustices the community faced and sparked the modern movement for sexual diversity liberation. Since then, June 28 has been celebrated as a day of pride, resistance, and the fight for human rights for LGTBIQ+ people.
